Florida Beaches Ranked Among Top in Country If you're planning to visit one of the pristine beaches in Florida, you'll be pleased to know that Florida beaches consistently rank within the top 10 in the "Best Beach" list published annually by "Dr. Beach".
Dr. Beach, otherwise known as Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, is the author of "America's Best Beaches". In addition to being an expert on U.S. beaches, he's a Professor of Environmental Studies at Florida International University in Miami, Fl. Since 1991, Dr. Beach has made a second career visiting and ranking beaches throughout the country, publishing his annual "Best Beach" report every year around Memorial Day.
The latest report includes 3 beaches in Florida that are rated in the top 10 throughout the country for 2008. Some of the qualities that score big with Dr. Beach are optimal water temperature, crystal clear turquoise water, glittering white sand, and beach ambiance (litter-free, great amenities, etc.)
