Planning Honeymoon Travel?

Congratulations! After the stress and excitement of planning a wedding, honeymoon travel is a great way to relax, have some fun, and celebrate your lifelong commitment to each other!

This page is intended to help you narrow down your choices, make some important decisions, and find the trip that is best suited to your needs, at a price you can afford.

The first thing you'll want to do is select the perfect honeymoon destination. How do you picture yourselves relaxing...on a tropical island, taking in the romance and adventure of Europe, skiing in the Alps, or maybe backpacking through an exotic land?

Once you've identified the activities, atmosphere, and weather conditions that will be the most enjoyable for you, you'll be ready to move on to selecting the ideal honeymoon destination.

Affordable Honeymoon Travel

So, you may be thinking yeah, those trips sound amazing, but how could we ever afford them? Don't worry, there are many ways to enjoy affordable honeymoon travel. How would you like to choose your honeymoon destination based on your wants rather than on your budget? You're in the right place - the tips below will most definitely help you!
  • Honeymoon Registries can help you pay for your entire honeymoon, or for a portion of it.

  • Do you have friends or relatives who own a timeshare? They might be willing to sell you their week inexpensively, or to even give it to you as a wedding gift. You can probably even exchange the location.

  • Check online sites such as Craig's List for timeshare or rental property. Sometimes you can get great bargains. Just be thorough in checking out the accommodations and location before you buy. Remember, this is your honeymoon, and you don't want to get stuck in a 2 star hotel with a view of the parking lot!

  • Would it help you to be able to save 30-50% on your honeymoon? You may be interested in learning how to start a turn-key internet business in the travel industry. This would not only give you incredible savings, but could also help you to generate a great second (or primary!) income.

  • How about a road trip? No matter where you are in the country, there is no doubt a luxurious resort location within driving distance.

  • Honeymoon cruises offer several advantages: they are for the most part all-inclusive (with the exception of drinks, gambling, and excursions), you can visit several exotic locations without the hassles of changing hotels, and they focus on pampering their customers. Who could ask for more?

  • If you like the idea of taking an all-inclusive honeymoon but aren't fond of the sea, you'll want to look into all-inclusive resorts. Many even include drinks. The least expensive destinations for inclusive honeymoon travel tend to be Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

  • Consider vacationing off peak. Maybe Cape Cod, Mass. in the winter? You won't want to spend the day sunbathing, but a romantic walk along the deserted beach could be refreshing!

  • Sign up for a vacation newsletter. If you're willing to "wing it" you could get a great last minute deal.

Packing Tips

  • I'm big on making lists, especially when traveling. If you start it early you can add to it as you think of things

  • Pack an extra bag for any souvenirs that you pick up along the way. One extra bag on your return flight will be less costly than an overweight one!

  • Rolling, rather than folding, your clothes will help to maximize luggage space and reduce wrinkles

  • You'll probably be able to start putting together your travel wardrobe well in advance of the wedding. It will be great to have one more thing checked off the list before the big day, and you can pack last minute items just before leaving.

  • To avoid leaks and excessive wrinkling, pack all liquids in sealed plastic bags, and put heavy items on the bottom of your suitcase.

  • Hopefully your luggage will arrive with you! Just to be on the safe side, I highly recommend packing necessities in a carry-on bag. These should include all medications, 1 change of clothes (I always pack a bathing suit as well), and personal items that you don't want to be without.

  • Be aware of airport guidelines regarding carry on items. Liquids cannot exceed 3 oz., and need to be placed in clear plastic bags to carry through airline security.

  • Do not exceed 50 lbs per bag, or you’ll be charged extra.

Set the Stage

Whether you've been living together for some time or are new to this experience, honeymoon travel provides a chance to ease into married life. Remember, you've just made a lifelong commitment to your very best friend (if you're lucky enough to consider your spouse your best friend)!

Dealing with the odd habits of your new housemate might take some getting used to, but please keep in mind the big picture, and don't sweat the small stuff! Here's to a new life filled with peace, joy, health, and prosperity!
