New Hampshire Map and Vacation Information

With just one look at a New Hampshire map, it's clear to see why this picturesque New England state is a popular vacation spot.

With its coastal beaches, clean lakes, spectacular mountains, and crisp, fresh air, New Hampshire has much to offer.

New Hampshire History

New Hampshire history plays an important role in the early days of the United States. The granite state was colonized just three years after the pilgrims landed in Plymouth. Originally a part of Massachusetts, this area was split into a separate entity by the King of England.

It was one of the thirteen colonies that fought against England in the Revolutionary War, and was the first state to declare its independence from its ruling country. This proclamation was made six months before the Declaration of Independence resulted in the formation of the United States of America, making New Hampshire a nation-state during this time.

New Hampshire Weather

Hot, sunny summer days mean good news for the New Hampshire tourism industry. Boating, fishing, beaching, hiking, and camping are popular activities.

For those who are not fond of the heat, fall is the perfect time to visit. The weather can range from crisp and cool to quite warm, and the famous New England foliage is spectacular. "Leaf peepers" visit from all over the world to witness Mother Nature's annual show.If you plan to experience the foliage, be sure to bring along a New Hampshire map to locate great routes.

Snow worshipers love winter in New Hampshire. As you can see from the New Hampshire map, the granite state borders Canada, and offers many of the winter thrills found in Canada, without leaving the country. Skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing are favorite winter sports, and New Hampshire tourism thrives on the plentiful resorts that cater to snow lovers.

Although spring officially runs from March 20 to June 21, this is typically a short, but beautiful, season in New Hampshire. April is usually a very wet (and often damp) spring month, and the New Hampshire weather often brings summer heat early in June. May provides comfortable, sunny days, the amazing beauty of budding trees and flowers, and true spring weather.

New Hampshire Tourism

New Hampshire tourism accounts for a large part of this state's revenue. The beauty, serenity, and diversity of attractions make it popular throughout the year.

Some of the activities that make New Hampshire tourism so popular include boating, beaching, hiking, camping, fishing, shopping, skiing, ski mobiling, and of course, leaf peeping.

With thousands of acres of wilderness, camping is a popular activity for vacationers. Whether you're into "roughing it" or prefer a luxury RV, you'll find that this state is bountiful in camping facilities. If this is of interest to you, you can pick up a New Hampshire map that includes state parks that offer low cost camping spots.

Unless you're a true adventurist, you probably won't be camping here in the winter. This is a time when ski, snowboarding, and snowmobile enthusiasts pack the ski resorts and hotels and head to the mountains to revel in the brilliant white powder of the slopes.

Accommodations

This beautiful, tranquil state offers many choices, ranging from 5 star hotels and resorts to campsites, and everything in between. Many visitors are delighted to stay in charming New England bed and breakfast establishments. Others prefer to rent lakeside or oceanfront cottages.

Although New Hampshire is an all season vacation spot, there are some businesses that operate on a seasonal basis only. Take a look at a New Hampshire map and you'll realize that some areas that may be incredibly spectacular during the spring, summer, and fall months could be desolate in the winter! Despite the season, you'll want to make reservations ahead.

Lakes

New Hampshire is home to many natural lakes. If you look at the New Hampshire map, you'll notice Lake Winnipesaukee - my favorite. This enormous lake, the largest in New Hampshire, spans a massive 21 miles in length and is as wide as nine miles in some areas.

This is a very popular, and populated, spot for boaters, sailors, and jet skiers, who can literally spend an entire day out and about.

Just imagine boarding a boat in the morning and cruising to a charming New England town for breakfast, followed by a couple of hours of boating along the lake. The surrounding mountains are awe inspiring, and the lake shore homes are incredible.

After dropping anchor to swim and sunbathe for awhile, you can venture off to another dockside spot for ice cream and some shopping, maybe some dinner, or to a great beach bar for cocktails.

The journey back, best taken at dusk, unfolds the most spectacular sunset you could imagine.

My Recommendation

Whether you love the lazy, hazy summer weather, or prefer the indescribable beauty of a mountain nestled in snow, or anything in between, I recommend that you make it a point to visit New Hampshire. It's one of my favorite states, and may become a favorite of yours as well!
